Let us begin this session with a very simple and familiar example of mnemonics . To remember the colours of the rainbow, use the mnemonic "Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain".
One basic rule of mathmatics is that : the solution of a question lies in question itself . same rule applies for english words even :
for example :
1.parochial
(adj.) relating to or supported by or located in a parish
"parochial schools"
They are planning to organize a meeting between the heads of all the parochial schools of the country.
(adj.) narrowly restricted in outlook or scope
"little sympathy with parochial mentality", "insular attitudes toward foreigners"
synonyms : insular
I have little patience with parochial mentality.
Mnemonics for parochial
link this with paro....(of devdas)...whose parents were narrow in their outlook for devdas family , so they married her to someone else.
2. babble
chatter idly or foolishly; make continuous sounds like water running gently over rounded stone;
(noun) gibberish resembling the sounds of a baby
synonyms : babbling , lallation
babble ~ ba bb bl; just imagine a baby saying Ba ba ba ba .. (making meaningless sounds)
these are a few examples for today from words . this use of mnemonic is for those who are aspirants of GRE , MAT , CAT etc . i will try to give a few examples on daily basis . so as to improve your vocab base .
once upon a time , there was a persian king . He used to address all his soldiers(approx. 5000) with their names . due to this soldiers were loyal to him . now some of you might be thinking how can we remember the whole list of facts or names . there are techniques available in market after being paid . specially in indian market there are very less number of person with these technique . and for some of them this is their profession now . so try to use this blog the best way you can .
level 1 : mind mapping
recently i was in HIT@ Kolkata with my workshop . i simply told students , what is mind mapping ? and with in no time they remembered 50 facts in the same order .
It is the process of remembering by using some important nodes in a particular location . it is like remembering the whole location .
its too late now ... so just excuse me for the time being . i will explain the types of mind mapping and its process in next session . till the time enjoy with words mnemonics . i will explain this with respect to the Location : Army Institute of Management @ kolkata . so dnt miss it ....
